Materials
Gold-plated pieces - Merewif's gold-plated pieces are 100% brass base, with a gold plate layer much thicker than the industry standard. Once the pieces are plated, a protective finish is added, and with proper care should maintain the finish for years.
Gold-filled pieces - Merewif uses gold filled chain on certain delicate necklace styles. Gold filled jewelry is composed of a number of layers wherein a gold alloy is permanently bonded to the brass core with both heat and pressure. Because of the permanent nature of gold filled jewelry, this category tends to be slightly more expensive than plated or vermeil jewelry but should not be confused with solid gold jewelry.
Jewelry Care
To prolong the life of your gold plated and gold filled pieces, we recommend removing your jewelry when doing the following:

swimming (chlorine and salt can affect plating over time), showering, or washing your hands

applying lotions, oils, perfumes, etc.

cleaning, especially with harsh chemicals

rings when getting a manicure and necklaces/earrings when having hair treated
Do not use jewelry cleaner on plated items. Pieces may be polished with a damp cloth.
